Local Business Feature: B’town Kids

Introducing Bungendore’s Boutique Children’s Clothing & Gift Destination. B’town Kids has been operating in the Bungendore Village Square since 2015, once a customer myself, I bought the business just over two years ago.

I did fleetingly consider operating exclusively online, but it wasn’t really the direction I wanted to take. So, despite the increasing trend of online shopping I decided to maintain the boutique shopping experience, which allowed for a more personable and visible approach.

What Makes B’town Kids Special

The store offers a thoughtfully curated range of products for children, including babywear, children’s clothing, accessories, toys, books, and gifts suitable for newborns up to children aged 12 years.

I strive to balance providing durable and affordable products with ethical and sustainable manufacturing processes and am increasingly partnering with suppliers and brands who share this commitment.

Many of the brands we now carry have been tested by my own children over the past 6 years, so they must meet pretty rigorous standards.

Unique Finds and Lasting Quality

We also offer a limited range from boutique brands that are not readily available everywhere, these heirloom quality pieces are designed to be passed down through generations to be loved again and again.

B’town Kids is really a place for shoppers who value the traditional shopping experience, where customers can browse, feel the quality of fabrics, and enjoy a complete and engaging shopping experience, hopefully finding something they love. And it’s no secret that I enjoy a good chat, with regular customers and visitors alike, you can’t do that online! And if they aren’t in a hurry I offer complementary gift wrapping.. which usually entails more chatting.

A Business Built on Community Connections

I love getting to know more about the community through my business, when I worked in Canberra I didn’t meet many locals or have much involvement.

Occasionally, we even get very unusual visitors… my favourite so far is the gorgeous Hephner the Alpaca. (pictured)

I really hope this tactile and personable approach to shopping doesn’t disappear, for me B’town Kids is not just a shop but a destination at the heart of a community.

Quick Q&A

What’s your favourite animal?

Other than Dogs.. Lions, they are just so majestic, visiting Africa and seeing them in their true habitat is at the top of my bucket list.

What do you love about Bungendore?

I just love the country feel and having space but not being isolated. It’s quite central. And there are some really amazing people.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, we have Rhodesian Ridgebacks.. the best way to describe them is they are “not man-serving”, they work with you not for you. I actually love that about them.
After 20 plus years of ownership they still surprise me.

How long have you been in Bungendore?

This is our Fifteenth year in Bungendore, still newbies lol.

Do you have a funny story involving an animal or pet?

I definitely think dogs have a sense of humour, my late great George (gee I miss him) thoroughly enjoyed a regular game of tossing around the toilet roll. When he was upset he would have the greatest pleasure in shredding it.. the degree of shredding would be determined by the degree of his annoyance. Whenever George had to wear the cone of shame, (apparently the epitome of degradation) this pleasure escalated to my shoes, just one shoe out of a pair, then he would start on another. So much so that I had to install a baby gate on the door to the walk-in robe because he learned to open the door and get to them. As soon as the cone came off he wouldn’t touch them. George continued with the toilet roll game throughout his life and the baby gate remains to this day.

Favourite joke?

I have never been any good at telling jokes, so I’ll spare you now. 😊
