How Our Staged Dental Procedures Are Going

In November we introduced staged dental procedures for dogs and cats, and we’re pleased to share that the transition has been going extremely well. Not only has this approach improved patient safety and comfort, but it has also given our team—and our clients—greater clarity and confidence when it comes to dental care.

By staging dental work, we’ve been able to significantly reduce anaesthetic times, ensure more accurate quoting, and provide more comprehensive treatment planning. Most importantly, it allows us to perform complex extractions on a clean, healthy mouth, which leads to smoother recoveries and better long-term outcomes for our patients.

So how does it all work?
For anyone who hasn’t come across this information yet, here’s a quick breakdown:

Stage 1

involves a general anaesthetic, intra-operative IV fluid therapy, full-mouth dental radiographs, and a professional scale and polish. These X-rays are then carefully reviewed alongside our full oral examination to determine whether any teeth require extraction.

If extractions are needed, we provide a clear, itemised quote and book your pet in

Stage 2

ideally 2–4 weeks later. This allows the mouth to be clean, stable, and free from inflammation when we perform any necessary surgical extractions.

If your pet doesn’t require extractions—great! Stage 1 is all they need.

An important part of this new approach is that if Stage 2 is performed within four weeks of Stage 1, there is no additional anaesthetic cost. This means owners aren’t disadvantaged financially by the improved staging process; instead, pets benefit from safer, shorter anaesthetic periods and targeted treatment planning

We’re grateful for the positive feedback we’ve received so far and thrilled to see the difference staged dental procedures are making for our patients’ comfort and oral health. As always, our goal is to provide the highest standard of care while keeping owners informed, supported, and confident in every step of the process.

If you ever have questions about your pet’s teeth or whether a staged dental may be recommended, our team is always here to help.
