Bravecto Quantum

We are very excited to announce that we are now stocking an exciting new product in clinic — Bravecto Quantum, a once-yearly flea and tick prevention injection for dogs.

For many of our clients already using regular flea and tick preventatives such as Bravecto chews or NexGard, this new option is a real game changer. Bravecto Quantum provides 12 months of protection against fleas and paralysis ticks with a single injection, helping to take away the stress of remembering monthly treatments — especially before those last-minute trips away to the South Coast or northern areas of Australia where paralysis ticks are a major concern.

Even for dogs that stay local, year-round flea prevention remains an important part of keeping pets healthy and comfortable in our region. An added bonus is that the injection can be conveniently administered alongside your dog’s annual vaccination and health check. Bravecto Quantum takes approximately 3 days to reach full effectiveness, so we recommend having the injection administered at least 3 days prior to travel for complete protection.

So, how does it work? Bravecto Quantum is an injectable slow-release suspension designed to gradually provide protection over a 12-month period. Interestingly, it actually contains a lower dose than other Bravecto formulations. This means that if your dog has previously tolerated Bravecto chews or spot-on products well, they are also likely to tolerate the injection without issue.

Clinical trials showed that even at five times the recommended dose, no significant side effects were observed apart from mild swelling at the injection site — something that can occur with many injectable medications.

Bravecto Quantum is registered for use in dogs from 6 months of age. However, at our clinic we generally recommend waiting until dogs have reached their adult weight before administering the injection. While the dose does allow for some normal weight changes over the 12-month coverage period, large fluctuations in weight may affect protection levels.

At this stage, the product is not registered for use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs, as safety studies have not yet been completed in these groups.

This is a huge step forward in our protection against fleas and, most importantly, paralysis ticks — a potentially life-threatening condition for dogs. If you would like more information, please give us a call or chat with one of our wonderful team members next time you are in clinic.
